Manufactured to Customer’s Design Specification
At Crown Screw we understand the critical role that our fasteners play in the manufacture of your products. From high volume automotive customers, local fabricators to low volume prototyping, we will have the precise components for your requirements. This information page is designed to give you a brief overview into the world of forged products, to guide you towards the right component for your project.
Hot Forged
With a simple process of heating a billet or workpiece up to 75% of its melting temperature, allowing it to become easily workable, the product can then be hot formed by methods such as hammering and pressing. The hot forging process makes it easier to work the metal and form complex parts, without the worry of fracturing the product during manufacture. The hot forging process will result in optimal Yield strength. At this stage further heat treatments, de-embrittlement and plating process can be performed to meet your exact specification. Utilising Solidworks CAD software, our experienced engineers can assist at the design stage to minimize unnecessary manufacturing costs. Full batch traceability and supporting quality documentation such as PPAP and IMDS are available. Most commonly used in the automotive, aerospace, defence, medical, rail, construction and fabrication industries.
Cold Forged
Cold forged products are generally produced from metals at near room temperature. The common forming methods for producing components are forward extrusion, bending, squeezing and shearing. The cold forging process will increase or retain properties such as tensile strength, while still allowing high levels of forming. At this stage further heat treatment, plating and de-embrittlement processes can be performed to meet your exact specification.
